California Deserts In 'Super Bloom' Thanks To A Wet Winter

March 17, 2017 - "In some parts of the country, cold weather is threatening crops. Meanwhile, California has been so unseasonably wet that its deserts are experiencing what's called a "super bloom." After years of drought, the normally arid desert is lush."

I hope this isn't a surprise when it all burns in the fall.

Hawaii experiences white-out conditions as snow falls

By Jennifer Earl/ CBS News/ November 28, 2017, 4:56 PM

Conditions on the summits are dangerous.

The entrance to the summit of Mauna Kea has been closed at the Visitor Information Station at the 9,200-foot level due to fog and icy roadways.

In a statement Tuesday morning, the Mauna Kea Weather Center said the atmosphere near the Big Island will be "completely saturated" and "unstable" through at least Friday night and possibly even Saturday.

"Inoperable conditions will continue to be the norm as extensive fog, ice, high humidity, overcast/thick clouds and periods of rain/snow plague the summit through the next 4-5 nights," the Mauna Kea Weather Center said.

By the numbers: A look at Montreal's debilitating storm

With 100s left stranded on Highway 13, 200 buses stuck in snow, it's hard to believe spring is 4 days away
CBC News Posted: Mar 16, 2017 6:09 PM ET
In the end, around 40 centimetres of snow fell in Montreal.

Around 300 vehicles, including two STM buses, were trapped overnight on Highway 13 when the road was blocked after a collision with a tractor-trailer. Although the exact number of occupants of those vehicles is unknown, there were far more than 300.

Some of them were on the road for at least 12 hours. The road closed around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and first responders didn't help to reopen it until 4:30 a.m. It wasn't until hours later that the highway was totally clear.

About 200 STM buses were stuck. On Wednesday morning, the STM was recommending people take the Metro, which for the most part ran smoothly.

City officials are estimating it'll take at least six days to clear up the mountains of snow dumped on the city.

There are four days before spring arrives.

"On Monday the road to the home was washed out and couldn't handle cars."

"A deluge of heavy rain and high winds created a messy commute for workers in the National Capital Region Monday morning, forcing even Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to take some unconventional measures to get to work.

Trudeau had to climb aboard a John Deere Gator all-terrain vehicle and take back roads from his weekend residence in the Gatineau Hills to make it to the office in downtown Ottawa."

Colder than Hell. Literally.

Hell – Norway, -1 C Most cities in Canada are colder than Hell, the Norwegian town that regularly flirts with the freezing point through much of December. It’s not an especially frigid community, but the conveniently-named town has served up many “Hell has frozen over” jokes over the years.
