How many in California have had the coronavirus?

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said researchers believed coronavirus was in California in 2019. The researcher who said that was not affiliated with the study.

Stanford Medicine researchers are testing people to find out how many Californians have had coronavirus, media outlets reported.

The study will account for the people who were infected but didn’t show symptoms or weren’t severely sick, according to The Mercury News. The test will show if they have antibodies that may mean they are “immune to future infection,” the outlet reported.

Himalayas Visible for First Time in 30 Years From Some Parts of India as Lockdown Sees Drop in Pollution

For many residents, the sight is something which they have never witnessed in their entire lives.

For the first time in 30 years, India’s snow-covered Dhauladhar mountain range has become visible to locals as a result of plunging pollution levels resulting from measures taken to check the spread of the novel coronavirus.

For many residents, the sight of the Dhauladhar Range—which translates to “White Range” and forms part of the Himalayas—is something which they have never witnessed in their entire lives, reports SBS.

India, a country with upwards of 1.3 billion residents, has been placed under a strict nationwide lockdown from March 22 until at least April 14. The draconian move limits the movement of the entire population, and has been criticized by rights groups as well as figures from private industry who claim that the measure is arbitrary and damages the country and its economy.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director, said Americans should never shake hands again, in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus and other diseases.

The leading infectious disease expert on President Donald Trump's coronavirus task force told the Wall Street Journal that an end to handshaking would be good for reducing future transmissions of the novel coronavirus and would also cut the number of influenza cases.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Journal podcast, the NIAID director hoped to see "light at the end of the tunnel" by the end of April.
