‘Plans to be at WH tomorrow’: Pence’s office DENIES he's self-isolating over Covid-19 fears

“Vice President Pence will continue to follow the advice of the White House Medical Unit & is not in quarantine. Additionally, VP Pence has tested negative every single day & plans to be at the White House tomorrow,” Pence spokesperson Devin O'Malley said Sunday, shortly after Bloomberg reported that he would be staying away from public duties after one of his advisers tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday. Media had reported Pence was self isolating.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, who is on the coronavirus White House task force headed by Pence, recently announced he will be entering a “modified quarantine” following “low risk” contact with the staffer who tested positive. His quarantine will include him working from home and wearing a face mask for 14 days.

It has not been officially revealed who the person is with coronavirus who came into contact with members of the task force, but Katie Miller, the press secretary to the vice president, tested positive on Friday. The task force last met in-person on Thursday.

Cuomo demands twice weekly care home Covid-19 tests

Workers at care homes in New York state must be tested for coronavirus twice a week under new rules laid out by Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo.

Care facilities that fail to meet requirements intended to stem infections will lose their operating licenses, Mr Cuomo said on Sunday.

The mandate come as New York weighs options for relaxing other lockdown measures.

Parts of the state and neighbouring region could reopen business on 15 May.

New York has been the epicentre of the US coronavirus outbreak, with 26,670 deaths and 335,395 cases as of Sunday.

The US has seen a total of 1,327,720 cases and 79, 495 deaths from the virus

provinces have found up to 30 per cent of the time someone with COVID is still testing negative

Sometimes you have it, even if the test says negative

There has to be virus in your nose for the test to find it, but that doesn't always happen, especially right after an infection.

"You don't necessarily test positive from the moment that you're infected with COVID," said Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, the chief medical officer of health for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Sometimes a positive test doesn't mean you are infectious

When there is virus in the sample, the test is very good at picking it up. Sometimes, it's too good.

Even after a person has recovered, they can still test positive.

The body has fought off the disease and is no longer contagious, but if the swab picks up some dead virus, you will still test positive.

Germany infection rate rises as lockdown eases

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the reproduction rate - the estimated number of people a confirmed patient infects - is now above 1.

This means the number of infections is now rising in the country.

The report came as thousands of Germans gathered on Saturday calling for a total end to the lockdown.

Chancellor Angela Merkel announced a broad relaxation of national restrictions on Wednesday after talks with the leaders of Germany's 16 states.

All shops are allowed to reopen, pupils will gradually return to class and the Bundesliga - Germany's top football league - will restart as soon as next weekend.

SOUTH KOREA, HAILED FOR PANDEMIC RESPONSE, BACKTRACKS ON REOPENING AFTER COVID-19 CASES JUMP

Despite recently reopening businesses amid an impressive decline in new coronavirus case, the South Korean government has issued a nationwide health advisory for bars and nightclubs to close down for 30 more days after health officials tracked 13 new cases to a single person who attended five nightclubs and bars in the country's capital city of Seoul.

"We believe we will have another community infection," said Vice Health Minister Kim Gang-lip at a Friday press briefing. "The spread took place in enclosed and crowded spaces. Transmission with no known source of infection can lead to a widespread cluster infection and that is why the government is not letting its guard down."

The man in question had no symptoms when he visited the nightspots. He eventually tested positive on Wednesday and gained admittance to a hospital in Suwon, a city south of Seoul, according to the UPI wire service.
