Ontario reported 204 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, a slight dip from the past two days.

Sunday, however, is the third straight day that the province has reported more than 200 new cases.

Sixty-four per cent of Sunday's cases are in people under the age of 40, said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott in a tweet.

Toronto, Ottawa and Peel regions make up the majority of the daily case count, reporting 63, 47 and 35, respectively.

A total of 27 public health units are reporting five or fewer cases, with 16 reporting no new cases at all.

The daily case increase brings the cumulative total in the province since the outbreak began to 44,504. Of this number, nearly 90 per cent are considered resolved, with 124 new cases marked as resolved on Sunday.

The province reported one new death since its last report.

A total of 31,143 tests were processed on Saturday.

Coronavirus: Cases in France leap past 10,000 a day

France has reported a record daily increase in coronavirus cases as the country struggles to contain a fresh surge in infections.

On Saturday health authorities said there were 10,561 new cases, rising by more than 1,000 from Friday's figures.

The numbers of people admitted to hospital and intensive care are also increasing.

A group of doctors have urged people to avoid private gatherings amid the fresh outbreak.

"After the joy of reuniting this summer, it's time to be careful in the private world," the doctors said in a column published in Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday.

"The smaller a room, the more people it contains, the less airy it is, the more you increase the risks."
