Diabetes drug metformin recalled due to high levels of cancer-causing agent

The recalled drugs are marketed as “extended-release tablets” under the brand name Time-Cap Labs, Inc.

The drug helps lower the blood glucose levels of those with type 2 diabetes.

But the recalled product contained an unacceptably high level of N-Nitrosodimethylamine, which is considered a probable human carcinogen.

“Marksans performed N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) testing of unexpired identified marketed lots and observed that NDMA content in some lots is exceeding the acceptable Daily Intake Limit (ADI) of 96ng/day,” the FDA outlined in its announcement.

Relieves heartburn, but causes cancer.

Zantac (ranitidine) has been considered a safe heartburn medication for decades… until now.

In Spring 2019, independent pharmacy Valisure tested samples of Zantac and other generic ranitidine medications.

In October 2019, Health Canada announced a ranitidine recall after testing found unacceptable levels of N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).

Testing showed 3 million NDMA nanograms per tablet, which is much higher than the acceptable daily intake of 96 nanograms.

Those who have been diagnosed with cancer after taking Zantac could be eligible for compensation
