A386

This has been one of the Zenith grails for me personally. Maybe after this I'll start looking for the ref: A386, even though it's much more common than this one.

Only 100-200 pieces of these were manufactured by Zenith.

What makes the watch interesting is the rare compass function and the crown on the left side, which when pressed, stops the movement, and by turning the crown while held down, you can move the sub-seconds hand forward/backward. The red hand is the "indicator" for North, meaning that by pointing the minute hand toward the sun, the red hand should indicate North. This is not currently possible because the watch is not in working condition.

The movement is also rare. The Zenith caliber is 143-1-3-6, which was manufactured by Excelsior Park (their own cal. JB4-24H). This was only in production for a short time and Gallet also made similar watches with the same movement. Gallet's version is called the Navigator. Excelsior Park also released its own version of this, which is called the 'Paratrooper'. - Micke Korko 2025
