Hantavirus as a cause of hemorrhagic fever is not new (4). Evidence from Chinese medical tests suggests its existence over 1,000 years ago. In 1951–53 during the war in Korea, this virus made news when hemorrhagic fever developed in over 2,000 United Nations troops. The transmissible nature of the disease was first documented after serum and urine taken from patients, then inoculated into human volunteers, produced the infection. - VPH
