Tina Dam takes us on the tour:
Things go ok at first, it's a lovely day in Southern California, the sun is bright, you can smell the sea air life is wonderfull at ICANN world headquarters in Marina del Rey California.
Paul worrying about his root. (File photo, he wasn't actually there that day)
Now there's a million dollar view. Per year. One of the nicest million dollar view not being used in Los Angeles, right in the Marina.
Nobody's there. They walk down halls with lots of closed locked office doors. The most senior person on staff at ICANN is a secretary to the HR director.
But they find one programmer...
...who says how great it is he can work on the net and be working with his boss right beside him. He doesn't even need to go. Why does his boss need to go then? But ok whatever. It's a glorious day at ICANN. There's now a camera tracking Tina's smiling face inset.
Then they walk into the IT section. Ah, the control and command hub of the company that controlls all the internet names and numbers. They must have diligent senior scientists in there, probably doing research. Note there are two cameras, one on snoozy over there, and one on Tina herself, so we get to see her reaction .
Then we go back down the hall, back to the guy that was working, and the French dude with the camera cracks a joke about nobody working here today. He meant "there's not many poeple there" but came out like "so, nobody's actually doing anything huh?". Suddenly, ICANN staffer looks nervous.
Ye gods what got him all tied up in a guilty looking knot like that. Would it be because the French cameraman said "Ha ha you are ze only one working here today"? Because when the camera first entered the building buddy here was hanging out in the front lobby talking to some other guy that was also goofing off and quickly went to his desk when he saw the camera. Check for yourself at the beginning of the video:
Sooooooooo... over here...
So... quick, look over there, this is the Postel room.
Look! Shiny thing! With diagrams and stuff!
The white board in the Postel room. It's full of marketing stuff. Uh, Houston... marketing stuff? In the Postel room? Shouldn't this be called the ISOC Suite?
When it's caught doing something naughty, ICANN always wants you to look at the white board.
Wonder what the new CEO will do with all this?
