We are working with an old database program and have no funds to adjust to a newer system. We are happy with the support of the California Academy of Sciences, so we can use their server capacity and help with the software applications.We are not thinking of expanding right now, partly because of the impossibility of doing so now.Photos of the fishes would be nice, but there are numerous web sites who have already published lots of fish photos. Fish base and https://www.fishwisepro.com/ already has lots of photos, and of course the famous killi data (https://www.killi-data.org/subscription.php) for the killifishes. Photo's of type specimens can also readily be found (besides on our CAS website: https://researcharchive.calacademy.org/research/ichthyology/types/index.asp) at several natural history museums.Our main objective is serving the fish community with a review of all the names ever used for recent fishes and give citations of the used names. That we can check and present with confidence, leading to the current valid name.We don't have the time (or knowledge) to check if the linked photos are corresponding to the correct name. ALl it takes is about 3 lines of code to ask fo rthe photo and see if it exisrs, then show it. I spoke to Parenti about this years ago, he feedback helped, then they went a difdferent diretion with a standard that can zoom in the head and such, which isn't actually a big deal. Anyway, my idea is there are a couple of foundations I can talk to that I'm prety sure will go for it, so, the way oit would work is as follows: we ink some sort of agereement, based on this, the foundations allocate funds new system is brought up, either in NYC or Toronto. i ftp files from you guys make my changes ship you the system ot just the files. You get to keep the machine or we can test on our haerdware and buy you whatever you need. the grant will have provisos thay 85% of the money goes to Jouke Van Der ZEE and 1-% of that goes to the kfn.
