AncientBiotics - a medieval remedy for modern day superbugs?

A one thousand year old Anglo-Saxon remedy for eye infections which originates from a manuscript in the British Library has been found to kill the modern-day superbug MRSA in an unusual research collaboration at The University of Nottingham.

Dr Christina Lee, an Anglo-Saxon expert from the School of English has enlisted the help of microbiologists from University’s Centre for Biomolecular Sciences to recreate a 10th century potion for eye infections from Bald’s Leechbook an Old English leatherbound volume in the British Library, to see if it really works as an antibacterial remedy. The Leechbook is widely thought of as one of the earliest known medical textbooks and contains Anglo-Saxon medical advice and recipes for medicines, salves and treatments.

Early results on the 'potion', tested in vitro at Nottingham and backed up by mouse model tests at a university in the United States, are, in the words of the US collaborator, “astonishing”. The solution has had remarkable effects on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) which is one of the most antibiotic-resistant bugs costing modern health services billions.

Have we found the cure to cancer?

Here's what we found that is new since 2007:

When a cell begins to divide an enzyme is made that only occurs during this time, it's one of he Cytochrome P450-II series and we call is "Cyp1B1".

When the DNA is error checked and passes, this enzyme is destroyed. It's a biological "delete me" signal and this is very similar to what happens in computer programming.

Should the cell not pass error checking then the presence of this enzyme means the immune system kills it and this happenes regular as clockwork every day in every human on earth.

Sometimes the error checking isinterrupted benefit finishes. If the cell is ok, no big deal. No harm no foul. But if the cell did not divide correctly then either it's capable od further division or it's not. if it is it maybe a benign mutation or ot maybe what we call cancer.

The immune system takes care of the cell to be deleted via gene P53, inactivated in 75% of cancer patients. All that's needed to reactivate it is the raw material found in some produce but not others, a substance tht is reduced by up to 90% when antifungals are used, because the plant makes them in response to mold spores.

The 25% of cancer patients with an active gene P53 do do not have other chemicals the immune system needs, mostly the precursors in the human antioxidant system: L-Ascorbate, L-Tocopherol, Magnesium and Selenium; these depends on other amino acids most notably N-Acetyl Cysteine or "NAC" which explains why Ascorbate alone cures certain types of cancers.

If it's worth looking into, watch this, it's longer and very good.

Burke is in these two who explains is. He's professor Emeritus at London Doctors Teaching Hospital in England for Metabolic Pharmaceuticals.

What Potter and Burke do now is make this stuff in Britain and sell it from Canada on the website salvestrol dot ca. it's cheap, about 100 for a months worth and works with the body not against it like the expensive stuff you're using now. Try that as well or instead of and it'll do more good. Here's some tech goop on the stuff:

The Cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP1B1 [1] only occurs in cancer cells [2][3]. When certain phytoalexins such as resveratrol and salvestrol are ingested these phytoalexins are converted by the P450 enzyme into piceatannol [4], which is fatal to cancer cells but not human cells [5][6].

(note that potter invented the Cyp19 version for industry first, now considered an absolute cure of prostate cancer then did the cyp1b1 version that works on all cancers outside the system as is not eligible for patent and they have no interest in the stuff.)

The phrase "snake oil" is long used as a pejoritive to denote quakery. In reality it is a valuable theraputic agent used for thousands of years, slandered by the patent medicine industry. Click to read the whole story.
