Zaf's macro photography lighting setup

Zaf's macro photography lighting setup
Zaf Basha explains his macro-photography lighting setup for photographing watches

This is the set up. Basically a box made out of old shelves and a raised panel on one side that has a macro rail screwed into it ($45 off eBay). The entire camera moves up and down if the item doesn't fit in the frame, but I've had good success with zoom lenses though not as sharp as the 60mm dedicated macro Nikon I use.

The lighting is two fluorescent rings stacked on each other. There is a piece of glass underneath them that's lit below via a fluorescent bulb as well, lower wattage. The heat is blown out by a PC fan. That gives you the white background. Mind you, I usually have to knock the background out post-facto, but it makes that process so much easier if it's under-lit.
