France reports first death outside Asia

France's health minister reports that a Chinese tourist died from coronavirus at a hospital in Paris.

Chinese health authorities continue to battle an outbreak of a pneumonia-like illness, first detected in the central city of Wuhan in December. The disease is caused by a novel coronavirus, officially known as SARS-CoV-2, which has now infected more than 67,000 people and claimed over 1,500 lives. On Feb. 15, France's health minister reported that the previous day, a Chinese tourist had succumbed to coronavirus at a Paris hospital, the first death outside Asia.


China's Hubei reports 139 new coronavirus deaths on Feb. 15

BEIJING (Reuters) - The number of new deaths in China’s central Hubei province from the coronavirus outbreak rose by 139 on Saturday, the province’s health commission said on its website on Sunday.

A further 1,843 cases had been detected in Hubei, the epicenter of the outbreak, said the commission, taking the total in the province to 56,249.


First case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Egypt.

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, 15 FEBRUARY 2020. On 14 February 2020, the Minister of Health and Population of Egypt, Dr Hala Zayed, confirmed the first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Egypt.

In her statement, she confirmed that the patient is male, 33 years old, of foreign origin and is currently receiving treatment at an isolation centre in Egypt. The 17 contacts of the patient have tested negative, and all of them are under home isolation for 14 days. They are being followed up by the Ministry of Health and Population.
